We all know what it’s like when you first start a new job. Trying to remember what you were taught in training, getting to grips with the app -the fear you feel walking into that first Client’s house by yourself.
We have designed a Mentoring Programme and now we need some experienced care staff who are good communicators with a nurturing and patient personality type to show new staff good practice, tips and tricks, and be there for them in those first days and weeks to answer questions and check in on them.
Our aim is to drive up quality out there on patch and give new carers the support and confidence they need to become excellent carers.
You will receive training in how to Mentor, as well as a 20p uplift per hour in your pay (whether you are mentoring or just on shift yourself), as well as a Mentor’s lanyard and pin badge to show your new role.
What we expect:
- You should complete your Mentee’s Evaluation Booklet in good time and hand it into the office to be added to their records.
- Make regular contact with your Mentee (especially for the first few weeks) on an informal basis to see how they are getting on.
- You will also be asked to complete spot checks and competency assessments in the field, and recommend further training where it may be needed.
- You should have extra PPE to hand out to your Mentees if they are running short.
- Ideally you will be a driver with your own car (although we will consider walkers depending on area/rota) and should be comfortable doing double up calls as well as singles to show the full breadth of the service – we will give you a mileage allowance for travel connected with your Mentoring.
- You will still do your own rota and may not have Mentees with you every week.
